First Aid Course Name Updates
Starting June 22, 2026, the Canadian Red Cross is updating the names of its First Aid courses and certifications to align with national standards.
What's changing?
- Standard First Aid will become Intermediate First Aid
- Emergency First Aid will become Basic First Aid
During the transition period, you may see both names used together:
- Intermediate/Standard First Aid
- Basic/Emergency First Aid
Will my certification still be valid?
Yes. Existing certifications remain fully valid until their expiry date. Previously issued certificates will not be changed or reissued.
Is the course content changing?
No. This update reflects a change in naming only to align with national standards.
